Joy Children’s Home

Joy Home October 2010

Joy children’s home was built in 2005 in response to the Tsunami of Boxing Day, 2004.  (See Tsunami 2004 page for details of how the home was instigated).   It is situated in a small fishing village that was devastated when the Tsunami hit.  112 destitute or orphaned children now live in this beautiful, spacious, airy building.    The home has a an open courtyard area in the middle, designed to help keep the buidling cool during the heat of the day.  The children sleep in large dormitories – separate for boys and girls – on matresses placed on the floor.  We are currently involved in raising funds for bunk beds for the children that will give them more space and a more comfortable sleeping experience.  Progress towards this target is good.  If you would like to help with this, please visit our ‘Items of Need’ page or click ‘Donate Now’ on the right of this page.
