Joy children’s home was built in 2005 in response to the Tsunami of Boxing Day, 2004. (See Tsunami 2004 page for details of how the home was instigated). It is situated in a small fishing village that was devastated when the Tsunami hit. 112 destitute or orphaned children now live in this beautiful, spacious, airy building. The home has a an open courtyard area in the middle, designed to help keep the buidling cool during the heat of the day. The children sleep in large dormitories – separate for boys and girls – on matresses placed on the floor. We are currently involved in raising funds for bunk beds for the children that will give them more space and a more comfortable sleeping experience. Progress towards this target is good. Why choose us as your charity?
We are a small charity based in Macclesfield, Cheshire.
100% of the money you give goes directly to India to help some of the poorest people. We make a huge difference with few resources. India Direct is run entirely by volunteers – no salaries (only minimal admin expenses - taken from Gift Aid). Our work is targeted at needs identified by our Indian partners. We make regular trips to India/England ensure accountability, which we fund ourselves, not from the charity.
