Tailoring School

Within 3 days of Annie hearing the words ‘what are we going to do?’ from tearful young women in the village, who had lost parents, homes, everything; Annie took immediate action and started a tailoring school at the new Joy Children’s Home. With just 3 sewing machines, piles of fabrics and a local tailor (who lost her business) they hoped to find employment or start a business when trained. Girls who passed examination were given a sewing machine and fabrics to give them a good start at earning a living. The first group of girls successfully qualified during 2005 and are now learning more advanced tailoring skills.
Annie has now closed the Tailoring School (Oct 2010) as the demand has now decreased. She will make courses available again in the future. This work has been a very valuable addition to the work in India and has made financial independence a reality for many women.
