Let there be chickens!

In place of our usual Christmas celebrations at the two children’s homes, this year we used some of the Christmas fundraising money to buy chickens for our children’s families as a means of providing more sustainable support for them. We are delighted to share a few photos of the hens, who have settled into their new homes well! 

The photos show the hens incubating their eggs to provide the next generation of chickens for our families. Our trustees in India report that nearly 30 chicks have hatched so far in each home. As well as the extra sustenance, some families have sold eggs to generate additional income at home, others are waiting for the chicks to grow to sell them on.

This has been a good, sustainable gift in extremely difficult times for these families, who have an extra mouth to feed while the children’s homes are closed, and with paid work so scarce. Thank you to all our Christmas Direct supporters who contributed to this valuable project!
